The Effect of Cognitive and
Metacognitive Strategy-based Grammar Instruction on Intermediate Iranian EFL
Learners‟ Development of Structural Knowledge”
From my point of view the learners have to adapt themselves to the
strategies the teacher has in mind to develop the lessons taking into account
aspects relate with grammar in order to make the students communicate their
ideas in a real context, it applies different strategies to be useful and accurate
with the learners’ aims, it involves cognitive strategies such as deduction,
repetition, translation among others that show how the learners put into
practice their cognitive and metacognitive knowledge about the grammar topic.
An idea that calls my attention was this: According to O‟Malley and Chamot (1985, cited
in Brown, 2000, p.125), self-monitoring is the process of “correcting one’s
speech for accuracy in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, or for
appropriateness related to the setting to the people who are present”. I am
totally in agreement with these ideas because if you as a learner wants to
learn in a coherent way you have to spend time doing by yourself what is
beneficial for you, in other words if you study by your own aim you will learn
easily any topic you wish to improve, moreover it is very important how all the
test are applied to any research in that way the overcomes can be defined well and also its main steps to follow the research.
As
an idea to finish my opinion about this document, I think that is very
essential how teacher uses strategies to teach grammar in order to make sure
students have the best bases to apply grammar.
Metacognitive
Strategy Training for Vocabulary Learning
In this text I could find different
strategies to apply with learners who are willing to improve their L2, in this
way they are taking risk in any opportunity the lesson permits, it means they
are very interesting in develop excellent bases to learn the L2, all these aims
depend on how the strategies could be apply because it is very interesting how
mix strategies demonstrate a positive impact regard the learning of L2, Graham
believes that metacognitive strategies, that allow students to plan, control,
and evaluate their learning, have the most central role to play in improvement
of learning, I am in agreement with him because these ideas are very clear
respect all the bases the learners develop by themselves are the most important
to follow the process of learning.
Moreover, learners have to identify what
kind of strategies are useful to learn vocabulary and also the teacher has to
know how to apply with the students strategies in order to teach in a well
manner the lexical issue, apart from this I found two approached in teaching
learning strategy and I think the most effective one is the direct which involve
in a conscious way the students in how the strategies are being applied, here
it is a main point how the learners deal with the time, that is time management.
To finish my opinion I believe that
learners could achieve the goal, they improve their lexical knowledge with the
application of effective strategies in order to develop this topic, also how
the instructions show overcomes in a positive way it includes an advance in vocabulary
learning.
